Anyone else weirded out by this crazy weather? 90 one day, 50 the next – it’s nuts! Well, while it seems like we can’t count on stable temps yet, there’s one thing we do know – summer is coming, and it’s coming fast. If you don’t think your air conditioner is up to the task of keeping your home cool and comfortable, make sure you have it inspected sooner rather than later!
An air conditioner inspection is the easiest way to protect yourself against any unexpected AC breakdowns this summer. But what happens if your air conditioner stops working anyway? Do you need to call for AC repair right away, or are there things you can do to try and solve the problem on your own?
If your air conditioner isn’t working…
Check to make sure the thermostat is set to COOL mode. This is an easy thing to forget and it can cause you a lot of grief – set it now and you won’t have to think about it the rest of the summer!
Make sure your AC condenser (the outdoor unit) is running properly. To do this:
- Find the circuit breakers in your breaker panel and make sure they’re set to ON.
- Find the air conditioner disconnect switch around the side of your house and make sure it is in the ON position.
Make sure the blower motor is running. If your AC is working and the thermostat is set to COOL, this shouldn’t be a problem. If it’s still not working, make sure the ON/ OFF switch on your AC is set to ON.
Change your filters monthly to help them stay clean.
Check to make sure your floor vents aren’t blocked by furniture and check all supply vents to make sure they’re open and blowing air.
Those are the most important things! If your AC stops working, try those first. If they don’t help, call Top Notch Heating, Cooling & Plumbing for Kansas City air conditioner repair!
